On a channel far far away, in a galaxy etc etc...
Discovered the 'Horror Channel' is currently running classic Doctor Who episodes over this weekend. Unearthly Child, Mind Robbers plus classics from many other eras are being shown in full.
I have Sky and the channel number with me is 319 (with Horror+ at 320)
Just watching The Mind Robbers, which I haven't seen since I was eight! |

I watched that not all that long ago as I've been buying everything available on DVD, nearly got all the stories released now..., filled up a book shelf with just Doctor Who DVDs so I guess you could say I have a healthy collection. |

Out of interest are these the cleaned up, restored versions as seen on the DVD's, or ropey straight from the archive jobs? |

First three Doctors' stories seem to be restored, rest not.
They used an odd version of ATTACK, it was a four part version made by cutting the 2 part in two (not the international 4 part version) So they had no episode caption on 2,3 or 4. |

Thanks for the info.
I find it odd that after all the time and expense put in to creating lovingly restored versions of the stories for DVD, they're not available for broadcast use. Even the clips used in the latest episodes have seen better days |

They probably are available for broadcast use. However, as you say a lot of time and, more importantly, money will have been spent on the restoration work. To recoup this, the BBC will be charging a premium to other channels, such as the Horror Channel, that want to use them for broadcast. So commercial channels will just pick up the license for the cheapest version available to them as they will estimate that paying out the extra for the best versions will not result in a significant increase in the number of viewers, so not worth the additional expense. C'est la vie |
